BILL BREWSTER (DJ SET)
Whether he’s taking the roof off a club with his unique selection of deep and tough house music, enchanting a backroom with a genre-bending set of disco, Balearic, rock and hip hop or playing chillout music in a bay in Croatia, Bill Brewster is the man for all occasions. He began DJing in the 1980s, but came into his own in the early 1990s, particularly during a two-year stint in New York running DMC’s office, where nights at the Sound Factory and hanging out with Danny Tenaglia gave him the musical grounding you can still hear in his music today. His parallel life is as a writer and with his long-term partner-in-crime Frank Broughton they have written four books together, including the acclaimed Last Night A DJ Saved My Life (latest edi-tion published last July), How To DJ (Properly) and The Record Players. .
DOG UNIT
DOG UNIT sound like electronic music played by a rock band, or post-rock you can dance to. Purveyors of entrancing drone, tactile texture, slow-mo polyrhythm, and skewiff riff.
VANITY FAIRY & FRIENDS
Having supported The Last Dinner Party, Warmduscher, Katy J Pearson, Audiobooks, Lime Garden, Insecure Men, Let’s Eat Grandma, and Girl Ray, the last few years have been a bit of a whirlwind for divine disco diva – and recent Moshi Moshi signing – Vanity Fairy. A sparkling starlet of the underground East London scene, Vanity’s debut EP ‘Love From Above’ spins a nostalgia-laden world that plays with kitsch-pop tropes and revels in the hedonistic indulgences of classic disco. But there’s also something strange at work here. Between her shimmering vocal falsetto (which has been compared to everyone from Barry Gibb to Kate Bush) and onstage theatrics, the iconic disco darling is earning a reputation as one of the most mesmerising live performers around. Vanity Fairy is on a messianic, hedonistic one-woman-mission to spread one simple emotion to audiences everywhere: JOY! She was a huge hit at SHAKE THE HIGH ROAD last year and we can’t wait to have her back for an even bigger show, this time bringing some special guests!
