LEWIS DANIEL
Lewis Daniel is a South London jazz artist, and we can’t wait to hear this saxophonist and composer/arranger bring his incredible show to SHAKE THE HIGH ROAD. His recent single ‘Find Your Tribe’ was played by Jamz Supernova as her Near Future Track.
GRAECYN
Graecyn is a musician who released their first single ‘Long Neck’ (featuring Damon Albarn on synth) last September. Graecyn is deeply influenced by jazz and began singing in jazz clubs at 18. They are influenced by the voices of Billie Holiday, Chet Baker, Nina Simone, Elis Regina, and the composition of Miles Davis, Vince Guaraldi, Thelonious Monk and many more. They also adore everything that Fiona Apple touches musically. As an actor, Graecyn (Olive Gray) has starred in film and television such as Steven Spielberg’s ‘Halo’, the BAFTA-winning ‘Save Me’, and Netflix’s ‘Sex Education’.
BETTY
We are delighted to welcome rising star Betty to SHAKE THE HIGH ROAD to join us on the BBC Introducing London stage. Betty’s debut EP ‘Mind Over Matter’ arrived last year on EYC Records. Acoustic alt-pop meets syrupy late night atmospherics, it began life as messages to her younger self, relating what she’s learned about her own mental health. Betty grew up with competing musical influences on either side — Aaliyah and Beyoncé from her mum, The Cure and the like from her dad — and found her own outlet in Lana Del Rey, Kanye, Hiatus Kaiyote, and more recently Sampha and Sexyy Red. As she started building her own sound, these echoes became louder again. Her recent single from the EP, ‘Mum Says’, has nearly 500k plays on Spotify.
KEMI ADE
The ‘Alternative R&B Queen’ will be joining SHAKE THE HIGH ROAD, following on from her recent single ‘Merci’ being played on Radio 1. She played the Southbank Centre in January as part of its Future Tense series of rising stars, and next stop Leytonstone!
CARTWRIGHT
Cartwright found himself deep in the highlands of Scotland with just a campervan and guitar during the summer of 2021. Having discovered a fishing lodge on his travels that his late father used to visit, he learnt that it had once been owned by his long lost uncle Jack Cartwright; uncovering a new branch of his family and a new musical direction. Taking inspiration from the likes of Ben Howard, Bon Iver, Big Thief and Alex Turner, Cartwright was born. The songs are a musical embodiment of his search for identity and the wilderness he finds it in.
